Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, has presented the Ministry of Health’s approved 2026 budget of ₦60,587,500,000, emphasizing the State Government’s commitment to expanding essential human resources for health and improving healthcare delivery across some local Government Areas.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry recorded a 45% budget performance this year 2025.
Despite this, significant progress was made this year through the joint efforts of the Ministry of Health and the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Dr. Obidike highlighted that healthcare centres have been built and completed across some Local Government Areas of the state.
He noted that while some communities previously lacked health facilities, ongoing projects are scheduled for completion in 2026 to ensure equitable access to care.
The commissioner also announced major developments in health education. Several nursing schools have undergone construction and upgrades, aimed at improving training capacity and strengthening the pipeline for essential human resources for health.
In addition, Anambra State is currently constructing a new hospital to serve communities in underserved areas, further expanding access to medical services. The commissioner said that the state has attracted international partners to support various health projects, reflecting growing global confidence in Anambra’s health sector reforms.
Obidike also said that one of the best rehabilitation centres in the region is nearing completion and is expected to be fully operational by 2026. This, he said, marks another major milestone in Governor Soludo’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of Anambra citizens.
He reaffirmed that the government considers health as a core priority, describing the ongoing projects as part of a larger vision to build a resilient, people-centered healthcare system for the state.
