Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday led a delegation of party leaders to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, seeking his guidance and support to reposition the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation, comprising members of the faction's National Working Committee (NWC), former Niger State Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, National Secretary Taofeek Arapaja, and Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) at 11:27 am.
They held a closed-door meeting with Obasanjo that lasted about 40 minutes.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Turaki described the visit as a courtesy call to introduce the new PDP leadership elected at the recent convention in Ibadan and to tap into Obasanjo's wealth of experience.
"We came to thank him for his contributions to strengthening democracy and building strong institutions that Nigeria continues to benefit from," Turaki said. "We sought his inspiration, guidance, advice, and critical support for the enormous task of leading the PDP back to power."
The former Minister of Special Duties under Goodluck Jonathan expressed renewed confidence following the discussions, stating that dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, despite its challenges, is achievable.
"The task may not be easy, but the inspiration and guidance we received today have made us more determined than ever to take PDP back to the seat of power in 2027," he added.
Turaki declared the PDP "battle-ready" for the polls, predicting victories in the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states as a clear signal of the party's resurgence.
"By the time we win these two states, there will be no doubt that PDP is on the rise to chase out the APC government with its incompetence and maladministration," he said.
In their remarks, Arapaja and Wabara called for unity within the party and intensified mobilisation efforts to restore the PDP's legacy of good governance and people-oriented welfare programmes.
