 PDP BoT Chairman Wabara Woos Abia Governor Otti to Join Party for 2027 Re-election Bid Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed strong optimism that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, currently of the Labour Party, will defect to the PDP to contest for a second term in 2027. In an exclusive interview with newsmen in Umuahia, Wabara described Otti as a "major asset" to any political platform and stated that the PDP would readily field him as its governorship candidate should he decide to join the party. Wabara attributed the growing interest in Otti from various political parties to his impressive performance in office, particularly highlighting the governor's recent launch of a 25-year Abia Development Plan as a visionary roadmap for a "New and Greater Abia."  Ten killed in tavern shooting in Gauteng


 Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Investigations, together with the Crime Detection Tracing Unit, have launched a manhunt following a deadly shooting in Bekkersdal.


 The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 21 December 2025, just before 01:00, at a licensed tavern in the Tambo section.


 Nine people were killed during the shooting, while 10 others sustained injuries. According to reports, about 12 unknown suspects arrived in a white kombi and a silver sedan.


 The suspects allegedly opened fire on tavern patrons and continued shooting randomly as they fled the scene. The injured victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.


 Police have mobilised all necessary resources, including Forensic Crime Scene Management and Crime Intelligence.


 The motive for the shooting is still unknown and will be determined through ongoing investigations.
