PRESIDENT TINUBU'S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND HER FAMILY. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.
The man who took her life has a VERY lengthy criminal history. A prosecutor attempted to have him involuntarily committed a month ago.
This is a tragic and frightening story outlining a wonderful woman's last terrifying moments and the systematic failures of a court system that allowed a deranged man to be free to take her life.
Zoe Welsh (pictured below) made a frantic call to 911 on the morning of Saturday, January 3rd. As Zoe was on the phone with dispatch, the intruder entered her home and violently attacked her.
Zoe fought back as hard as she could.
Officers with Raleigh PD arrived at Zoe's home on Clay Street in Raleigh, North Carolina, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sadly, it was too late for Zoe.
Responding officers found Zoe suffering from critical injuries. She was given first aid on the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.
Zoe Welsh was a science teacher and staple of Ravenscroft School, where she was employed for 20 years. Her untimely and tragic passing has left both faculty and students rocked to their core.
A short time after discovering Zoe, officers canvassing the neighborhood arrested her attacker. 36-year-old Ryan Camacho (pictured below) was taken into custody and questioned in relation to the attack. Ryan would ultimately be charged with felony burglary and homicide in the death of Zoe Welsh.
Now, many in the community are questioning why Ryan Camacho was free to take Zoe's life.
Many people who have had run-ins or have been victimized by Camacho in the past believe Zoe's death could have been easily prevented.
Ryan Camacho has been arrested 24 times and was just in court last month for breaking and entering charges. In that case, Camancho was found incapable of proceeding by a Wake County, N.C. judge.
The prosecutor desperately tried to have Camacho involuntarily committed, but the judge denied the request. A fact that makes Zoe's death all the more heartbreaking and senseless.
Ryan Camacho made his first court appearance on Monday, January 5th, at which time he was appointed a capital defender.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Zoe Welsh.
