Russia says Ukrainian drone strike kills 24 in occupied Ukraine as peace talks strain tensions    Russia’s Defense Ministry said Thursday that its specialists had accessed the navigation system of a drone it claims was used in a recent strike and that the data showed the aircraft’s final destination was President Vladimir Putin’s residence. Officials said the information would be shared with U.S. authorities through what they described as established communication channels, though no evidence from the navigation data was made public. The ministry also released video footage it said showed a downed drone connected to the alleged attack. The nighttime recording depicted a masked man in military gear standing beside a damaged drone lying in the snow, describing it on camera.  Pope opens 2026 with plea for peace in war-torn nations and families scarred by violence  Pope Leo XIV began 2026 on Thursday with an urgent call for peace, highlighting countries torn by war and families suffering from violence. He celebrated New Year’s Day Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica before delivering a noon prayer from his studio overlooking the piazza, where pilgrims and tourists gathered on a bright, chilly morning. Marking the church’s World Day of Peace, Leo urged the faithful to unite in prayer. “Let us all pray together for peace: first, among nations bloodied by conflict and suffering, but also within our homes, in families wounded by violence or pain,” he said. Following the busy Christmas season, the pope will take a few days of rest before leading celebrations for the Epiphany on Jan. 6, which will also mark the official close of the 2025 Holy Year—a once-in-a-quarter-century event that drew millions of pilgrims to Rome. Immediately afterward, Leo will preside o...

The restrictions apply to both immigrant and non-immigrant travelers. Officials cite national security and public safety as the reasons for the ban, while critics say it disproportionately targets African and Muslim-majority countries. The new measures continue existing travel restrictions on individuals from Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Partial restrictions remain in place for travelers from Venezuela and Cuba. The announcement comes as the administration a...

TRUMP SAYS HE UNDERWENT CT SCAN RATHER THAN MRI . (PHOTO).

Image
Trump says he underwent CT scan rather than MRI  For weeks, President Donald Trump had repeatedly said he underwent an MRI at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in October. However, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal published Thursday, Trump and his physician clarified that he actually received a CT scan, not an MRI. “It wasn’t an MRI,” Trump told the Journal. “It was less than that. It was a scan.” Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s doctor, confirmed the procedure, explaining that the president’s doctors initially planned either an MRI or a CT scan. The scan was conducted to rule out cardiovascular issues and showed no abnormalities. Both MRI and CT scans are used to image internal organs, but MRI uses magnets and radio waves while CT relies on X-rays. Trump previously said the imaging was part of his annual physical and had described the results as “perfectly normal.” Reflecting on the testing, he told the Journal he now regrets having it done, saying it has...

PROSPERITY CANNOT COME BY TAXING POVERTY. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.

Image
Prosperity cannot come by taxing Poverty As I travel the world and meet leaders who have transformed their nations, one lesson is clear: lasting economic and social progress begins with national consensus. Transformative leaders—those who successfully unite their people around a shared vision—share a defining quality: honesty. Government must be transparent and truthful because citizens deserve nothing less from those who lead them. True leaders do not exploit their people to enrich themselves and a few cronies; they build trust, unity, and shared purpose - the foundation of sustainable progress. It is against this standard of honest leadership that Nigeria’s current approach to taxation must be measured. If taxation is to function as a genuine social contract, it must be rooted in sincerity, fairness, and concern for the welfare of the people. Every tax policy should be clearly explained, including its impact on incomes and its expected contribution to national development. Witho...

Okonkwo said Obidients who are yet to register with the ADC can no longer be regarded as true supporters, describing them as “disObidients.”   “When I was in the Labour Party, I said it was a tactical mistake to tell your followers they could join all political parties. I am glad that my brother, Peter Obi, has now changed that tactic,” he said. According to Okonkwo, Obi, during an interview on X Space, directed his supporters to register as members of the ADC. “If you are an Obidient and you’re not in the ADC, sorry, you’re not an Obidient, you are a disObidient,” he stated while speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. The lawyer praised the ADC, describing it as a credible opposition platform and a “vehicle of good people,” adding that the party enjoys strong back...

Those opposing US Airstrikes On Terrorists Should Be Sent To Sambisa – Shehu Sani Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has stated that individuals criticizing the United States’ airstrikes against terrorist groups operating in Nigeria should be sent to the Sambisa Forest. Sani made the remark on Monday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account while reacting to the US-led airstrikes carried out on Christmas Day, which reportedly targeted terrorist enclaves in parts of Nigeria’s North-West. According to the former lawmaker, critics of military action against terrorists should be relocated to affected areas such as Zamfara and Sokoto to engage directly with the armed groups. He said those opposed to the strikes should be taken to Sambisa Forest to “preach, talk, or negotiate” with terrorists in an effort to stop the killings and kidnappings of innocent Nigerians. Sani argued that anyone rejecting military solutions must be prepared to offer practical alternati...
