 NO ABANDONMENT, NO NEW AWARDS: FG SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON MOROCCO SCHOLARSHIPS The Federal Government has firmly debunked misleading narratives circulating in some quarters regarding Nigerian scholarship students in the Kingdom of Morocco, describing such claims as false, unfounded, and deliberately crafted to misinform the public. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has clarified that no Nigerian student on a valid Federal Government scholarship has been abandoned. All beneficiaries duly enrolled under the Bilateral Education Scholarship (BES) Programme prior to 2024 have received payments up to the 2024 budget year, in line with the Federal Government’s obligations. Any temporary delays in outstanding payments are attributable to fiscal constraints and are currently being addressed through ongoing engagements between the Federal Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.  Gunmen Reportedly Attack Ugom Community Village After Church Service In Southern Kaduna Suspected terrorists on Sunday, December 28, 2025, attacked Iwhoshro (Unguwar Rogo), a village in Ugom Community, Maro Ward of Kajuru Local Government Area, Southern Kaduna State, leaving residents in fear and uncertainty. According to a press statement issued by the Ugom Progressive Union, the attack occurred a few hours after church services, when residents had returned home and were settling into their homes. The assailants reportedly arrived in large numbers on about ten motorcycles, each carrying three armed men. Eyewitness accounts indicate that all the attackers were armed with guns and immediately began shooting sporadically upon entering the village, causing panic among residents.  A Navy vet on his way to friends for Christmas Eve was found deceased inside of his car on Christmas day. 68-year-old Robert Hiller climbed into his blue Toyota Yaris on Christmas Eve, excited to meet up with friends. When he failed to show up that evening and his family had still not heard from him on Christmas Day, a missing persons report was filed. Sadly, air rescue crews would spot his vehicle partially submerged at 9:45 a.m. on Christmas Day. Robert was pronounced deceased on the scene. Robert was swept away, along with his vehicle, while on his way to meet with his friends. According to a witness who was driving behind Robert, he had tried to warn him. Tim Swain says, "I see the waters, and I see him driving into it, and I'm flashing my headlights and high beams, like, No!"  The traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, has urged the Umunri people to come together as one to reclaim their rightful position in national affairs. Speaking at the 2025 Umunri Colloquium at the Civic Centre in Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ekpeh emphasized the need for a united Umunri group to drive development and social cohesion, while highlighting the importance of culture in development and citing celebrations such as Igu Aro and Iwa Ji as means of projecting their culture globally. Igwe Ekpeh also appealed to Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba to turn his paper presentation into a book for research purposes. Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, the guest speaker, presented a paper titled “Cultural Diplomacy and Community Development,” using Enugwu-Ukwu and Umunri as case studies, and advocated cultural promotion, economic empowerment of youths and women, and the proper packaging of culture for global appeal.

 GBOKO WOMAN STRANDED IN LAGOS AS FRIEND GOES SILENT AFTER ARRIVAL  A young woman from Gboko, Benue State, has been left stranded in Lagos after travelling to visit a friend who allegedly stopped responding to her calls shortly after her arrival. The lady reportedly arrived at Flight Park, Lagos, only to discover that her host had become unreachable, leaving her without accommodation or immediate support. Eyewitnesses said she has remained at the park in a distressed state, crying and confused about her next step. The transport fare back to Benue State is estimated at ₦38,000, which she is unable to afford. The development has drawn public concern, highlighting the dangers of travel arrangements built solely on trust. Concerned persons are calling for assistance to help the stranded woman return home safely.

 SHOCK AS FPN COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENT FOUND DEAD IN NASARAWA  Residents of Nasarawa on Tuesday evening were thrown into shock following the discovery of the lifeless body of a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa. The deceased, identified as Linus Victor Chukwuemeka, was a Higher National Diploma (HND) II student of Computer Science at the institution. He was found dead in his compound at Dunamite Lodge, located near Living Faith Church in Nasarawa Local Government Area. As of the time of filing this report, the cause of his death remains unknown. Security operatives are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Efforts to get an official response from the management of the polytechnic and the police were unsuccessful as at press time.

The group, which meets at a palm wine joint opposite Emmalex Filling Station near the Union Office, reportedly pooled funds for Christmas welfare packages. Each member contributed ₦30,000 to provide fowls, palm oil and rice for all participants. While palm oil and rice were successfully purchased and shared, the fowls were never delivered. According to the group, a man identified as Terna Orga, said to be from Konshisha Local Government Area, was on Tuesday entrusted with ₦355,000 to procure the remaining fowls. Since collecting the money, he has allegedly disappeared, stopped answering calls, and his whereabouts remain unknown. The abduction was said to have occurred on Friday, December 26, 2025, under circumstances that remain unclear. As at the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Family members, church leaders and concerned residents have expressed deep concern over his safety, urging security operatives to intensify efforts to secure his immediate rescue.  Anthony Joshua Involves in Road Crash, Two Allegedly Die Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that World heavyweight Boxing Star Anthony Joshua has been involved in a road crash along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway this Monday along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Makun area of Ogun State The statement says the vehicle conveying  Joshua, a Lexus Jeep with the number plate, KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated. It was reported that Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries while two people were feared dead.  Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly as Woman Killed, Suspect Also Dies Following Community Attack   A 38-year-old woman was killed following an alleged domestic dispute involving her 40-year-old boyfriend on 26 December 2025 at about 16h30 pm at Tjibeng village. It is reported that the woman had locked herself inside the house, fearing for her safety.  The suspect allegedly gained entry after convincing a family member that he only wanted to speak to her. Shortly after, the suspect was seen fleeing the scene carrying a knife.  The woman was found critically injured and was declared dead at the scene by emergency services. The victim’s brother later located the suspect and attempted to apprehend him. During the confrontation, the brother was stabbed and sustained injuries.  The suspect was later attacked by community members near a tavern and sustained severe injuries. Emergency medical services were called, and the suspect was certified dead at the scene.

 Murder Incident Under Investigation at Sibasa Taxi Rank  A murder incident is being investigated at Sibasa, near the taxi rank, which occurred around 02:00 on Sunday, 28 December 2025.  The body of an unknown African male, estimated to be about 40 years old, was found lying next to the road.  The victim had stab wounds on the upper body, allegedly inflicted with a sharp object. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene and certified the victim dead.  Police have opened a murder case for further investigation. The deceased was dark in complexion, wearing a red top, blue jeans, and black boots.  The identity of the deceased is unknown, and circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.  The Supreme Court of India has put on hold the bail granted to former BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case.  The apex court will continue hearing the matter in January, effectively pausing the relief given to Sengar by the Delhi High Court last month. The Supreme Court is examining a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the Delhi High Court order that suspended Sengar’s life sentence. On December 23, the High Court had cited the fact that Sengar had already spent over seven years in prison while granting the suspension of sentence. Sengar was convicted for the kidnapping and r&pe of a minor survivor in Unnao, a case that had triggered nationwide outrage and raised serious questions about the misuse of political power. The life sentence was awarded after a trial monitored closely by the judiciary due to the sensitivity of the case.
