The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has described the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as an integral part of the state’s education system, assuring the Board of the government’s continued support to enhance its operations.
She made the declaration when the Anambra State Coordinator of JAMB, Dr. Diana Obiano, led her management team on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner at the State Secretariat Complex, Awka.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh said the state does not take JAMB’s role for granted, particularly in the conduct of qualifying examinations and placement of successful candidates into tertiary institutions. She commended the Board for establishing a 450-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre and pledged the state’s readiness to support the establishment of additional centres to improve access and efficiency.
Earlier, Dr. Obiano said that JAMB regards Anambra as a major academic hub in the South-East due to the high number of applicants from the state and their strong performance in examinations, which she attributed to the state government’s emphasis on quality education under Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
She noted that JAMB had contributed to development in the state through the establishment of a fully equipped 450-capacity CBT centre at its Amawbia office and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of Education to ensure seamless registration and examination processes.
Dr. Obiano added that JAMB last year undertook extensive sensitisation of secondary school students in both rural and urban areas on UMTE registration procedures at CBT centres, ahead of the April examinations.
She, however, appealed to the state government for support in the provision of official vehicles to access hard-to-reach areas, renovation of offices, and construction of holding halls at the Amawbia headquarters to accommodate the surge in candidates during registration and examinations.
Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu and the Director of Schools, Mrs Oyibo Alor.
