 Kaduna Teachers Complain Over Disorganized Promotion Exams One of the teachers who spoke to Kaduna Political Affairs described the situation as unfair, saying the exams were poorly organized. “The civil service is supposed to arrange this in a way that people won’t have to struggle, not in such a haphazard manner. We were told to arrive at a specific time, and we did, only to wait for hours while pushing and struggling to gain access. They need to do better,” the teacher said. Watch video below.

 The male suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, aged 21, who allegedly used a pestle to strike his master, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, on the head, resulting in his death, and also attacked his wife, Mrs. Ogechukwu Nwite, in the early hours of 15th February 2026 in Onitsha, is currently in custody. The pestle has been recovered from the scene. Preliminary information reveals that the suspect was allegedly provoked by the manner in which the late Ikechukwu admonished him over his bad behaviour, including pilfering money meant for the shop, staying out late at night, and taking drugs. Meanwhile, Ikechukwu’s wife was rescued and taken to the hospital, where she is currently responding to treatment. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation and to ensure that justice is served.  Solo hiker rescued after falling on icy West Virginia mountain terrain     First responders in West Virginia conducted an extensive rescue on Friday after a female hiker slipped on icy terrain and became stranded on Shenandoah Mountain. Emergency crews and fire teams were called to the scene after the hiker fell and slid down a steep trail. Rescue efforts began around 6 p.m., with teams navigating the slick conditions using several hundred feet of rope and two UTVs to reach the hiker. The operation lasted approximately 5.5 hours before the hiker was safely escorted down the mountain and transported by ambulance to Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Officials noted this was the second rescue in the area in the past two weeks and warned hikers to avoid the trails without proper winter gear, such as ice cleats or crampons.

Lance L. Woods, 53, faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of 35-year-old Alexis Skoczylas. Authorities responded to a welfare check at a residence on Buffalo Street around 5:14 p.m., where they found Skoczylas deceased and pronounced her dead at the scene. Woods, an off-duty Buffalo police officer and school resource officer, was taken into custody after a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies and transported to Niagara County Jail for arraignment.  LAWMA CRACKS DOWN ON ILLEGAL WASTE DUMPING ACROSS LAGOS Operatives of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement unit remain actively on ground, eradicating indiscriminate waste disposal across the state. During routine operations, illegal cart pushers were apprehended and dislodged for collecting and dumping refuse at undesignated locations, undermining ongoing cleanup efforts and defacing the environment. LAWMA confiscated their carts in different locations across Lagos, including Anthony Oke (Newcastle axis), Ifako Gbagada, Alagomeji–Yaba, and adjoining areas. Cleanliness is a collective responsibility. Residents are strongly advised to stop patronizing cart pushers and to desist from dumping refuse on streets that have been repeatedly cleaned.  TCN RESTORES SHIRORO–MANDO TRANSMISSION LINE 1 The Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN says it has completed repair work and restored the Shiroro–Mando transmission Line one, which is currently operational. A statement by the General Manager, public Affairs TCN, Ndidi Mbah, TCN states that with the restoration of Line one, bulk power supply to Kaduna Electric has improved, and power supply constraints previously experienced in Kaduna have been resolved. Repair works are ongoing on the 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line two, with restoration expected soon. This TCN says will further strengthen network redundancy and the overall system reliability.

15 TRADERS DIE IN AUTO CRASH AFTER ATTENDING WEDDING IN ENUGU  16th February, 2026   At least 15 traders have reportedly lost their lives in a fatal road accident while returning to Umuahia, Abia State, after attending a traditional marriage ceremony in Enugu State. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026, and has thrown the Bonny Street business community in Umuahia into mourning. The victims were said to be traders who had travelled to Enugu to honour the wedding rites of a colleague. According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle conveying the traders was involved in a ghastly crash during the return journey. Several passengers were said to have died on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were rescued and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where they are currently receiving treatment.  2 NEIGHBOURS ARRESTED IN ABUJA AFTER TEEN FATALLY BEATEN FOR ATTACKING MOTHER  16th February, 2026  Police in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested two men following the death of a 17-year-old boy in Byazhin, Abuja. According to the FCT Police Command, the teenager, Chidera Benjamin, allegedly attacked his mother with a machete during a domestic dispute on February 12 around 11:45 PM. Neighbours Cosmos Okafor, 31, and Okechukwu Wisdom, 17, reportedly intervened and in the process inflicted injuries on Chidera. He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital but was later pronounced dead. Investigations revealed the dispute began over alleged unauthorized transfers from the mother’s bank account to Chidera’s Opay account. The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has urged residents to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid taking the law into their own hands. BENUE GOVERNOR'S AIDE REJECTS ₦5 MILLION BRIBE, PLEDGES LOYALTY TO GOVERNOR ALIA  16th February, 2026  Hon. Asortar James, Special Assistant on Social Media to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has rejected an alleged ₦5 million bribe from Hon. Akutah. In a statement, James said the offer was delivered through Akutah’s lawyer, along with a letter and an agreement requiring him to acknowledge receipt of the money. “I cannot and will not betray my brother and leader, Governor Alia. My loyalty is unwavering,” he said, stressing his commitment to integrity and the values of public service. James recalled similar offers he turned down in the past, including a multimillion-naira proposal in October 2022 and another from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Christmas Day 2024. He assured that he will continue to act in the best interest of Benue State and remain steadfast in his support for Governor Alia.
