Dennis Quaid recently sparked controversy after publicly expressing his support for Donald Trump at a rally in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 71-year-old actor appeared alongside the former president, declaring his admiration for both the city and Trump.
Trump responded by praising Quaid and mentioning his upcoming film. Quaid also posed for photos with Senator Ted Cruz, further aligning himself with the MAGA movement.
The actor’s show of support quickly drew reactions online, including from his Any Given Sunday co-star Lauren Holly.
When a photo of Quaid traveling with Trump and Cruz on Air Force One surfaced, Holly quipped on Threads, “At least I got to slap him real hard in Any Given Sunday,” referencing a memorable scene from the 1999 film.
Fans applauded her witty remark, with many praising her for “winning the internet” and calling her a hero for speaking out.
Social media users were divided, but many criticized Quaid for his political stance. Some accused him of damaging his career, while others labeled him a fool or claimed he had been “canceled.”
Quaid has previously described himself as a “common-sense independent” who has voted across party lines, but in recent years he has leaned more conservative.
He even endorsed Trump during the 2024 election, calling him his “favorite president of the 21st century.”
