Image
BENUE GOVT BREAKS SILENCE ON 'BANDITS' REHAB CENTRE, SAYS FACILITY TARGETS VICTIMS, NOT TERRORISTS  The Benue State Government on Monday dismissed claims that it plans to establish a rehabilitation centre for hardened bandits, describing the reports as misleading and politically coloured. Rather, the government clarified that the proposed Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Centre is aimed at rehabilitating youths allegedly coerced into criminal gangs, particularly in the troubled Sankera axis. Director-General of the Benue State Peace and Reconciliation Commission, Josephine Habba, who addressed journalists amid rising public concern, said the initiative must be understood within the broader context of the state’s prolonged security crisis. According to her, insecurity in Benue has often been narrowly framed as herders-farmers clashes, whereas deeper issues including forced recruitment of youths into banditry remain largely overlooked. “There is confusion aro...

NETFLIX CHIEF REJECTS TRUMP’S CALL TO FIRE SUSAN RICE . (PHOTO).

Netflix chief rejects Trump’s call to fire Susan Rice  Netflix chief executive Ted Sarandos has dismissed President Donald Trump’s demand that the streaming giant remove former diplomat Susan Rice from its board, characterizing the issue as political rhetoric unrelated to the company’s business operations. Sarandos addressed the matter while discussing Netflix’s tentative agreement to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal reportedly valued at around $70 billion. The proposed acquisition has drawn scrutiny over potential antitrust concerns. Sarandos emphasized that the transaction is being handled as a standard corporate matter, overseen by the U.S. Department of Justice and regulatory agencies in Europe and other global markets. He said the deal is a business decision, not a political one, and downplayed Trump’s criticism as social media commentary. Trump recently questioned Netflix’s expanding market share and, in a post on Truth Social, urged the company to remove Rice f...

Former UK ambassador Peter Mandelson arrested in Epstein investigation British authorities arrested Peter Mandelson, the former U.K. ambassador to the United States, on Monday as part of an investigation into his links with Jeffrey Epstein. London’s Metropolitan Police said a 72-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was being questioned at a police station in north London. While the force did not name him, Mandelson has previously been identified as the suspect. The probe centers on allegations that Mandelson shared sensitive government information with Epstein around 15 years ago, though he faces no claims of sexual misconduct. His arrest follows a similar case involving former Prince Andrew, who was taken into custody earlier this month and released after 11 hours. Mandelson was removed from his diplomatic role last September after emails revealed he maintained a friendship with Epstein following Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sex offenses...

HOW FORMER PRINCE ANDREW COULD BE EXCLUDED FROM BRITAIN’S LINE OF SUCCESSION. (PHOTO).

Image
How former Prince Andrew could be excluded from Britain’s line of succession     It has been 90 years since a British royal was removed from the line of succession, but that could change now as the U.K. government considers legal measures to formally exclude Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Although stripped of his title as prince last October due to his ties with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the former prince—King Charles III’s younger brother—remains eighth in line to the throne. Experts note that any move to remove him would be complex, requiring coordination with about a dozen countries where the British monarch is also head of state. Momentum for action has grown since Mountbatten-Windsor, 66, was arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office related to allegations that he shared confidential trade information with Epstein while serving as U.K. trade envoy from 2001 to 2011. He was released after 11 hours in custody but remains u...

Public revenue cannot lawfully be retained, applied, or warehoused outside constitutional funds.  FCT Polls: Democracy under siege, Tinubu suffocating Nigeria – Atiku Former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concern over the low voter turnout recorded in Saturday’s FCT Area Council elections. In a statement reacting to the exercise, posted by his media aide Paul Ibe on X, the former Vice President described the turnout — which averaged below 20 per cent, with Abuja Municipal Area Council recording a figure of 7.8 per cent — as a damning verdict on the health of Nigeria’s democracy under the current administration. Atiku said the abysmal civic participation in the nation’s capital, the symbolic heartbeat of the federation, is not accidental. He argued that it is the predictable outcome of a political environment, which he claimed has been poisoned by intolerance, intimidation and the systematic weakening of opposition voices.
