 Lagos Court Jails NOGASA Chair, Fatuyi Phillips 21 Years  for N43.5m Fraud    Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, November 18, 2024, convicted and sentenced Fatuyi Yemi Philips, Chairman, Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria, NOGASA, to 21 years imprisonment for N43.5m fraud.   The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 5, 2022, arraigned Philips alongside his firm, Oceanview Oil and Gas Limited, on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N43, 502,000.00   Count one reads: "Fatuyi Yemi Philips and Oceanview Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, on or about the 28th day of September, 2016 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N43, 502,000.00 from Elochukwu Okoye and Elebana Unique Ventures Nigeria Limited on behalf of WAPCIL Nigeria Limited under the false rep

     The Lagos State Government has commenced the 2019 Basic Examination Certificate Examination (BECE) for JS3 Students and Entrance Examinations into State Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools for the 2019/2020 Academic session, as over 185,000 students across the State will sit for this year’s Examination which will run between Monday, 15th - Saturday, 27th July, 2019.
Addressing pressmen after an inspection tour of the BECE / CBT Examination centres, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Olatokunboh Adeleye expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and assured that results would be released in good time to enable successful students to resume into their respective schools and classes at the beginning of the new academic session in September, 2019.
In her words, “JS3 students writing the BECE Examinations will be tested in 9 compulsory subjects and 1 optional subject (Arabic). The subjects include English Studies, Mathematics, Basic Science and Technology, Religion and National Value, French Language, Business Studies, Cultural and Creative Arts, National Languages (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa) and Pre Vocational Studies”.
She disclosed that Entrance Examination into Model Colleges has two papers, which are English, including General questions and Mathematics taken for 2 hours each, adding that the examination is in two versions: Computer Based Test (CBT) which will be taken by 127 registered students and Paper Pencil Test (PPT) which sits about 10,873 at the 43 designated centers across the State.
On admission into Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools, the Permanent Secretary stressed that the requirements will be strictly based on candidates’ performance and vacancies in Schools.
Adeleye, who led a monitoring team to assess the conduct of the Examination which took place simultaneously in all the Six Education Districts of the State, urged parents/guardians to prepare their wards effectively for the examinations as well as ensure punctuality at their various venues.
Recall that the Lagos State Ministry of Education shifted the dates for the examinations in its bid to replace the manual registration with e-Registration of candidates so as to ensure a hitch-free and transparent process, devoid of malpractices.
