 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.      The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Establishments and Training, recently held a two-day Joint Negotiating Council meeting to resolve outstanding labour issues as well as staff-related career development and welfare matters in the State Public Service.
The meeting, held at the Combo Hall of Lagos State Television (LTV) at Agidingbi, Ikeja, was presided over by the Chairman of Council and Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Training, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye who disclosed that the meeting provided a platform to sustain the industrial harmony that has existed in the State over the years.
He thanked the State Government for resuscitating the bi-annual Council Meeting, noting that it was last held in 2017 and commending the delegates for their understanding.
While engaging trade union representatives in robust dialogue, Bamgboye assured the Council members that all issues will be addressed, referrals made where required and timelines set for the resolution of issues.
The Permanent Secretary commended the delegates for their contributions and suggestions on improving the welfare of the workforce of the State to drive improved service delivery.
“These two days had been engaging and afforded us the opportunity to discuss issues of common interest in helping the present administration to achieve its dream of making Lagos a 21st Century Economy”, Bambgoye said.
The Co-Chairman of Council, Comrade Razak Falade appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for agreeing to almost all the requests tabled during his last meeting held with council representatives and commended the Chairman of Council, Mr. Bamgboye, for handling the proceedings maturely.
The meeting also had in attendance Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies as well as the Chairmen and Secretaries of all Trade unions in the State Public Service, amongst others.More photos below.
