 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. MAKINDE APPOINTS DG OPERATION BURST, SSAs AND SAs CONFIRMED


On Friday 30TH of June 2023, the Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, granted approval for the appointment of Col. Oladipo James Ajibola as the Director-General of Operation Burst.

Furthermore, the Governor sanctioned the appointments of the following individuals: Mrs Bosede Sodiq as Senior Special Assistant (Broadcast Media), Mr Kehinde Oluwaseyi Ogunsanya as Senior Special Assistant (Economic Planning), and Mr Moshope Adebayo Akande as Senior Special Assistant (Information Communication Technology (ICT)).

Additional appointments are as follows:

1. Mr Albert Adebowale Ogunyemi: Special Assistant (Photographer) to the Governor.
2. Mr Otuowho Jesse Onoriode: Special Assistant (Photographer 2) to the Governor.
3. Mr OYEBODE BABATUNDE: Special Assistant (Transport) to the Governor.
4. Mr Adeyanju Daniel Akinloye: Special Assistant (Transport 2) to the Governor.
5. Mr Moses Adebayo Alao: Special Assistant (Print Media).
6. Mr Fisayo Daramola: Special Assistant (Digital Media).
7. Mr Ogunbowale Oladayo Olajuwon: Special Assistant (Communication).
8. Mr Ademola Aderinto: Special Assistant (Environment).

These appointments were communicated through a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. The appointments are effective immediately.

In his message, the Governor congratulated the new appointees and urged them to perceive their appointment as a heightened call to serve. He encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities with unwavering loyalty, dedication, and diligence.
