The Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET), Yaba, has welcomed over 800 students into various programmes for the year 2024/2025 academic session, urging them to prioritize excellence and discipline in their educational pursuits.

Speaking during the 25th matriculation ceremony held at the College premises on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, underscored the importance of academic excellence in the Educational system of the 21st century.

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by Mr. Yakub Abdulfatai Olayemi, emphasised academic excellence and discipline as integral parts of quality education.

Kasali encouraged students to think beyond the classroom by actively seeking ways to add value to themselves through determination, a zeal to learn, and discipline. He also stressed that innovation and skill development are critical for unlocking greater opportunities in academic and professional careers.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to youth development through the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which prioritizes Education, Technology and Innovation. He called on students to remain focused, self-disciplined, and well-behaved to ensure the Government’s investments in education yield positive outcomes.

Speaking on the pivotal role of Health professionals in society, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, emphasised the need for students to dedicate themselves to their studies.

Represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Mazeedat Erinosho, Ogboye advised students to leverage the College’s conducive learning environment, which features state-of-the-art laboratories, experienced Faculties and a globally relevant curriculum.

Dr. Ogboye cautioned students against any form of misconduct, reminding them that discipline is a hallmark of every successful professional.

He urged them to uphold the Institution's core values of integrity, professionalism, and compassion, essential attributes for exemplary Healthcare providers.

Earlier, the Provost of LASCOHET, Professor Raheem Olasupo Akewushola, congratulated the newly admitted students for their success in the competitive entrance examinations. He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and diligently complete their academic assignments.

Professor Akewusola reiterated the College's zero-tolerance policy for examination malpractice, cultism, and indecent dressing. He reminded students that professional integrity begins with academic discipline, and uprightness is vital in the Healthcare profession.

He also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering support and significant investments in the Institution. “These contributions”, he noted, “have positioned LASCOHET as a leading College of Health in Nigeria”.
