 CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them. PROFESSIONALISM: IGP HOLDS VIRTUAL CONFERENCE WITH STRATEGIC MANAGERS, ORDERS IMMEDIATE TRAINING OF CID INVESTIGATORS, REORIENTATION TOWARDS ATTITUDINAL CHANGE FOR POLICE PERSONNEL.


ORDERS WEEKLY LECTURES ACROSS ALL LEVELS


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, held a virtual conference today, January 13, 2025, with all Strategic Managers in the Nigeria Police Force, including tactical commanders, Commissioners of Police (CPs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), and the Force Management Team.


During the conference, the IGP applauded efforts of the officers for their moves in curbing crimes and criminality in the past year, 2024. He further charged them to improve on their anti-crime strategies to reduce crime drastically in the year 2025. The IGP emphasized the importance of conducting police duties with the highest level of professionalism stressing the critical need for enhanced specialized training for Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigators to bolster the efficiency and thoroughness of the Forceā€™s investigative capabilities, ensuring investigators are equipped to handle increasingly complex and high-profile criminal cases. 


The IGP also directed that additional training and reorientation courses be implemented for all police personnel to project attitudinal change and  ensure the consistent maintenance of professional standards in the execution of their duties. These courses will focus on areas such as human rights, community policing, ethical conduct, and the proportional use of force, reinforcing the Forceā€™s commitment to serving the public with integrity and respect. 


To further reinforce these efforts and ensure consistent knowledge dissemination, the IGP ordered the implementation of weekly lectures across all levels of the Force ā€“ Divisional, Area Commands and State Levels. These lectures will serve as a platform for continuous professional development, ensuring that all police personnel remain informed of evolving legal frameworks, best practices in policing, technological advancements in law enforcement, and other pertinent developments that support the professional execution of their duties. The lectures will also provide an opportunity for interactive discussions and knowledge sharing among officers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Force.


The Inspector-General of Police charged all strategic managers to be proactive in their respective commands and to consistently encourage all personnel to maintain professionalism in their duties and uphold public peace and order throughout the country. He emphasized that accountability at all levels is crucial to achieving these objectives and that supervisors will be held responsible for any misconduct of their surbodinates. The IGP reiterated his commitment to building a more effective and accountable police force that enjoys the trust and confidence of the Nigerian public.
