Nick Reiner remains in jail with no family contact ahead of trial in parents’ murder case
Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old screenwriter accused of killing his parents Rob and Michele Reiner, remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles without bail.
He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder following the discovery of his parents’ bodies in their home last December.
His case has drawn widespread attention due to the high-profile nature of the victims and the disturbing allegations surrounding the incident.
According to reports, Reiner has not been in contact with his family since his arrest.
Sources say relatives are unable to cope with the situation, leaving his defense attorney, Kimberly Greene, as the only person to visit him.
Greene took over the case earlier this year after his previous lawyer withdrew. Reiner is currently housed in a restricted mental observation unit, where inmates are monitored closely due to concerns about self-harm, rather than being placed in the jail’s general population.
Conditions at the Twin Towers facility have long been criticized, with lawmakers and oversight groups describing them as overcrowded and inhumane.
Past investigations revealed issues such as inmates being handcuffed to tables and forced to sleep on unsanitary floors, sparking calls for reform.
Sources describe the mental health unit as chaotic and noisy, adding to the strain of confinement.
Meanwhile, authorities have not disclosed any motive in the case, and Reiner’s defense team has not commented on reports of his family’s lack of communication.
