A SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS COUPLE FACE VERY SERIOUS CHARGES AFTER A WITNESS CAME FORWARD WITH SHOCKING EVIDENCE OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT. (PHOTO)

"The child was tied up and blindfolded."

(We are updating this story tomorrow with more information)

A Springfield, Illinois couple face very serious charges after a witness came forward with shocking evidence of abuse and neglect. We Are thankful the witness came forward.

According to reports, the details of this heartbreaking case came to light on March 8th when Springfield PD was contacted by a female who witnessed a shocking scene at the home of 32-year-old Willie Wardlow and 40-year-old Ashley Wardlow.

In addition to her important witness statement, the female witness also had photos and videos documenting the horrible conditions a small child in the home was forced to endure. The child is under 10 years old.

The photo and video appeared to show a young female victim who had been blindfolded and bound.

When officers with Springfield PD arrived at the home of Willie and Ashley Wardlow, no one would answer the door. However, while on the scene, authorities received information indicating Willie had fled the residence with the child.

Officers were quickly able to locate Willie and the child. Upon observing the child, it was immediately clear she had sadly been suffering from prolonged @buse.

The young girl was taken to a local hospital where the full extent of her injuries were discovered. According to official reports, the child had sustained multiple injuries including a brain bleed, broken bones, burns to her hands and facial wounds. The child was also severely malnourished and dehydrated.

When questioned by investigators Willie claimed "the injuries were the result of multiple falls". He also claimed the young girl "refused nourishment" leading to her being dehydrated and malnourished.  Willie did however admit to blindfolding the child and tying her up.

When investigators questioned Ashley she also admitted to tying the child up and told detectives she believes Willie strikes the young victim.

Authorities report that once in the care of the hospital the young girl ate "extremely well" seemingly to contradict Willie's assertion that she "refuses to eat".

Both Willie and Ashley were taken into custody and face a litany of charges including aggravated battery to a child under 13, unlawful restraint, endangering the life/health of a child and domestic battery.

Willie and Ashley Wardlow have been booked into Sangamon County Jail.

The state has filed a petition to deny the couple any pretrial release.

Our thoughts are with the young girl...
