That’s Not Fair - Kim Kardashian Says Prisoners Who Fought L.A. Wildfires Were Paid 'Just a Few Dollars,' and She Wants to Change That A renewed push for prison labor reform is gaining attention, with Kim Kardashian stepping in to support new legislation aimed at changing how incarcerated workers are paid. The bill, reintroduced on March 19 by Cory Booker, seeks to ensure that people working while incarcerated receive at least the federal minimum wage. It also proposes limits on deductions for fees, fines, and living costs within correctional facilities, through amendments to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Kardashian, who has increasingly focused on criminal justice reform, explained that her support is rooted in what she witnessed during the Los Angeles wildfires.  “I personally watched incarcerated people who risked their lives battling the massive wildfires,” she said, pointing out that many were paid only a few dollars a day despite doing the same high-risk work as profess...

AWKA COUNCIL OF KINGMAKERS CONDEMNS AND REJECTS THE REPORT OF THE PANEL OF INQUIRY SET UP BY GOVERNOR CHUKWUMA CHARLES SOLUDO ON THE AWKA TRADITIONAL KINGSHIP (EZE UZU) MATTER. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE.

 *PRESS RELEASE!!!*

AWKA COUNCIL OF KINGMAKERS CONDEMNS AND REJECTS THE REPORT OF THE PANEL OF INQUIRY SET UP BY GOVERNOR CHUKWUMA CHARLES SOLUDO ON THE AWKA TRADITIONAL KINGSHIP (EZE UZU) MATTER

The Awka Council of Kingmakers (Ndi Ichie), in strong representation of the traditional institutions and the collective will of Ndi Awka, hereby unequivocally condemns and rejects in its entirety the report of the Panel of Inquiry established by His Excellency, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, concerning the traditional stool of Eze Uzu Awka.

Our rejection is grounded in the following irrefutable reasons:

1. *Sub Judice – Pendency Before a Court of Competent Jurisdiction*

The matter of the Awka Kingship (Eze Uzu) is currently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction. The Panel of Inquiry has no authority to usurp, preempt, or interfere with the judicial process. Any attempt to do so constitutes a gross overreach and disregard for the rule of law.

2. *Flawed Composition of the Panel*

The Panel is improperly constituted, as its Chairman is a Knight of the Church, accompanied by a Reverend Father and other religious leaders, rather than qualified members of traditional institutions who possess deep knowledge of Awka customs, norms, and heritage. This composition undermines the legitimacy and cultural competence required to address such a sensitive traditional matter.

3. *Core Issue: Attempted Christianization of Traditional Practices*

The bone of contention in the Awka Kingship tussle centers on efforts to Christianize traditional practices, which directly contravenes the established norms, customs, and cultural integrity of the Awka Kingship institution. Such attempts are unacceptable and alien to our ancestral heritage.

4. *Unrealistic and Rushed Timeline*

It is implausible and unacceptable that the Panel could have reached credible conclusions on this complex and sensitive issue within a mere 9–18 days, Furthermore, the Panel failed to invite or visit principal stakeholders of Awka Kingdom for comprehensive consultations, rendering its process superficial and incomplete.

5. *Non-Indigene Membership*

Members of the Panel are not indigenes of Awka and therefore lack the requisite standing, cultural insight, and authority to speak for or act on behalf of Ndi Awka in matters concerning our traditional stool. Those on red cap who meet with the Panel do not represent Awka Council of Kingmakers.

This exercise, which we view as a charade, is wholly condemned by the Awka Council of Kingmakers, Ndi Ichie, and the entirety of sons and daughters of Awka Ancient Kingdom.

We reject the Panel's report in its entirety.

*We respectfully call on His Excellency, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, to prioritize pressing issues of governance and development in Anambra State, and to allow the matter of the Awka Traditional Kingship to be determined solely by the court of competent jurisdiction currently seized of the case.*

We further remind the Anambra State Government that previous administrations, under His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi and His Excellency Dr. Willie Obiano, respected the autonomy and wishes of Ndi Awka by focusing on governance while permitting the Kingship matter to be resolved through due process of law.

The peace, cultural heritage, and unity of Awka Ancient Kingdom remain paramount. We stand resolute in defense of our traditions and the rule of law.

Signed:

Secretary

Awka Council of Kingmakers (Ndi Ichie)

For and on behalf of Ndi Awka
