13-year-old, Josiah Dwinell, took his own life when he jumped from a bridge in Alstead, New Hampshire, on March 12th. He did not know how to swim. Josiah was on his way home from school when he made the ultimate final decision.
According to the family, Josiah had turned 13 just eight days before decided he couldn't take the teasing and bullying anymore.
Josiah had lost his mother 5 years before and was having a hard time coping with the loss, and combined with ongoing bullying and teasing, it was just too much.
Sadly, Josiah had sought help both from local police and medical professionals, but according to family, no one believed him outside of the family and accused Josiah of "seeking attention".
According to his aunt Shaena Stebbins, "My nephew decided after a bus ride home that he couldn't handle the bullying anymore."
Shaena also said, "He went to the hospital on numerous occasions where his Mimi sat by his side holding him trying to get him the help he was needing and his mental health was overlooked, and everyone outside his home said he was seeking attention".
Mimi was Josiah's grandmother, who had adopted him after his mother's passing.
Our hearts go out to Josiah's family. This is another heartbreaking case of a child screaming out for help and being completely ignored, and even worse, discounted until it is too late.
