EASTER CELEBRATION: LAGESC ENJOINS RESIDENTS ON ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has enjoined Lagos residents to maintain environmentally-positive practices during and after the Easter celebration.

The advice was contained in a press statement issued by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) on Friday.

According to him, "The resurrection of Jesus Christ is quite significant to the global Christian faith at Easter. Also important that during the celebration, Lagosians maintain best practices for the environment, such as proper waste disposal whilst eschewing acts such as street trading, open defecation and urination, possession of valid waste collection contracts and observing monthly environmental sanitation exercises by the State".

Cole also enjoined traders to desist from displaying wares for sale on the road setbacks, lay-bys, medians, verges, and kerbs, citing how street trading culminates in vehicular and pedestrian gridlock on roads in the metropolis.

The retired Major also read the riot act to owners of buildings to obtain a valid waste collection contract, as defaulters will be made to face the wrath of the law when apprehended for improper waste disposal and failure to subscribe to an approved PSP operator to cart away refuse periodically.

He admonished Lagosians to voluntarily observe the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise by the State, refrain from engaging in acts of open defecation and urination, just as he enjoined transiting Lagos residents to prioritise safety by using strategically-erected pedestrian bridges when crossing major highways in the State.
