Atiku Abubakar Alleges Tinubu Govt Sponsoring Factional ADC Chairman Nafiu Bala’s Lavish Security Convoy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of sponsoring the sudden luxurious lifestyle of Nafiu Bala, a factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Atiku claimed that Bala now moves with heavy security convoys similar to those of a state governor, complete with vehicles and official residence, which he described as clear evidence of external interference in the party.

The former vice presidential candidate made the allegations during an interview with DW Hausa on Sunday.

“So far, people from all states are still joining the party. Nothing has happened to suggest that Nigerians are withdrawing their support. Not at all,” Atiku said.

He attributed the ongoing leadership crisis in the ADC to “external interference,” alleging that some individuals have been “bought over” because the ruling party views the ADC’s growing popularity as a threat ahead of the 2027 elections.

“What is happening is external interference. Some individuals have been bought over and used because certain interests have noticed that the party is gaining momentum by the day. They see this growth as a threat if it continues,” he stated.

Atiku specifically questioned the source of Bala’s new security details and resources.

“How can someone who claimed to be the party chairman suddenly be provided with security, vehicles and a residence? It clearly points to outside influence. We have evidence. We know where he resides and we observe how he moves around, almost like a governor,” he said.

He also raised concerns over Bala’s movements, noting that the factional chairman has not returned to his hometown since the crisis began.

“Since the beginning of this crisis, he has not traveled to his hometown. Why is he afraid?” Atiku queried.

The former vice president further dismissed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) recent decision to derecognise the ADC, describing it as another instance of external interference aimed at weakening the opposition.

Atiku highlighted the ADC’s increasing appeal among young people and women, stressing that the party is now dominated by youth aspiring for positions from councillor to governor level.

“Youth are dominating the party now. Whoever you see planning to contest, from councillor to state assembly, national assembly, and governor, they are all youth. We already said our party is for youth and women; we want to win and give it to them,” he added.
