A suspect arrested in connection with the recent attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Plateau State has reportedly confessed to participating in the assault, claiming it was driven by a “religious war,” according to local sources.
The attack in Pwomol Village, located within Heipang District, has heightened tensions in parts of Riyom Local Government Area, an area that has witnessed recurring communal clashes in recent years.
A community source, Rwang Tengwong, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly identified himself as Yusuf Abubakar Musa from Fass Fulani Settlement in Riyom LGA.
He reportedly admitted taking part in the attack and claimed the violence was linked to a religious conflict. The suspect also named alleged accomplices, including individuals identified as Suleiman, Nasiru, and Jatau, among others said to be involved.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the development as of press time.
“So this is the suspect that was apprehended… he confessed that he participated in the attack and is fighting a religious war,” Tengwong stated.
The latest revelation is expected to intensify security concerns in the area, as residents call for swift action by authorities to prevent further violence and ensure justice for affected communities.
