 BENUE ASSEMBLY PASSES FORESTRY, MINING COMMISSION BILL TO BOOST ECONOMY, ENVIRONMENT  The Benue State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill establishing a Forestry, Mines and Solid Minerals Commission, marking a significant step toward economic diversification and environmental protection. The move is expected to strengthen regulation in the state’s resource sector while addressing concerns around sustainability and local benefits. The bill scaled third reading during plenary presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga. It followed a detailed report by the House Committee on Lands, Survey, Solid Minerals, and Environment. Lawmakers say the new commission will coordinate the exploration and management of forest and mineral resources without clashing with federal agencies.  PRESIDENT TINUBU SALUTES SAMSON ADAMU ON HISTORIC APPOINTMENT AS ACTING CAF GENERAL SECRETARY

 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, on his historic appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.

 

A statement by the Special Adiviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onaunuga notes that Adamu’s appointment, marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the top administrative position in CAF since its establishment in 1957.

 

Samson Adamu, who previously served as Director of Tournaments and Events at CAF, assumes the role in an acting capacity, following the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

 

President Tinubu describes the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian sports and a strong affirmation of the Country's enduring leadership and influence in African football administration.

 

The President commends  Adamu’s track record of excellence, professionalism, and dedication, particularly his contributions to the successful organisation and delivery of major CAF competitions, which have elevated the standard of football events across the continent.

 

The statement further notes that the appointment comes at a time of renewed focus on sports development in Nigeria, under his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, national unity, and global competitiveness.

 

He expresses confidence that the appointee will bring his wealth of experience, strategic insight, and administrative competence to bear in strengthening CAF’s operations and advancing the growth of football across its 54 member associations.

 

The President wishes him success in his acting role and assures him of Nigeria’s full support as he undertakes this historic responsibility.
