As the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) gets underway, a concerned parent, Engr. Anthony Ikemefuna, has urged teachers, parents, and guardians to closely monitor the movements of their children and students heading to various examination centres.
Engr. Ikemefuna, the Managing Director of Anthon Computers, Fegge, Onitsha, made this call in an interview with an information officer today.
He warned that the UTME period could be exploited by individuals with malicious intentions to perpetrate criminal acts, lamenting that some parents and guardians have neglected their responsibilities, particularly in ensuring the safety of their children by accompanying them to examination centres.
“I advise fellow parents and teachers to make it a duty to follow their children or students who are UTME candidates to their various centres to avoid any unpleasant or negative incidents,” he said.
According to him, his warning stems from unfortunate incidents recorded during last year’s UTME, where some candidates who left their homes early for the examination did not return safely.
He, however, called on the Anambra State Government, led by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to strengthen security across communities hosting UTME centres in the state to ensure the safety of candidates.
Engr. Ikemefuna also called on the public to offer prayers for UTME candidates in Anambra State and across the country, expressing hope that they would travel to their examination centres and return home safely.
