This tragic incident occurred on Monday, April 20th, at Valley Forge, High School in Parma Heights, Ohio.
Authorities responded to the school after receiving a report of "a disturbance".
Officers arrived on the scene at approximately 2:10 p.m. and discovered an 18-year-old female victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. The student was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
There were students present at the time of the heart breaking incident. However, a large portion of the student body only heard the gunshot, sparking fear and a temporary chaotic scene.
Teachers, administrators, and the school resource officer were quickly able to get the situation under control. The students were evacuated, parents were alerted, and a nearby pick-up location was established.
The school has announced it will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Counselors will be made available for all students and staff in the wake of this tragedy.
