Be Attentive to Your Husbands, Families - Catholic Cleric Urges Mothers on Mother's Day By Ifeyinwa Ogwo Rev. Fr. Francis Oranye, Parish Priest of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Awka, urged mothers to give serious attention to their husbands' needs, just as they do for their children, emphasizing that husbands are also part of their responsibilities. He pointed out that some family issues stem from mothers not taking time to consider their husbands and ensuring their well-being. "Some mothers do not communicate with their husbands and prefer to connect only with their children, neglecting their husbands' faith. Can you openly condemn children who do wrong if they contribute more to the family?" he asked. He encouraged mothers to show care and interest in their husbands. He made this statement during the 9:30am Mass today at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, GRA, Awka, celebrating the 2026 Mother's Day observed by the Catholic faithful. He praised those who diligently ...

AWKA TRADITIONALISTS, NDI EZEANI AND NDI ICHIE PLACE CURSE ON APGA MEMBERS OVER ATTACKS ON OBI AUSTIN NDIGWE. (PHOTO).

AWKA TRADITIONALISTS, NDI EZEANI AND NDI ICHIE PLACE CURSE ON APGA MEMBERS OVER  ATTACKS ON OBI AUSTIN NDIGWE

Awka prominent traditionalists, including Ndi Ezeani, Ndi Ichie, and the apex body of Omenani Awka, have invoked a strong traditional curse on members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for attacking His Imperial Majesty Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe MON, JP, whom they recognize as the authentic Ezeuzu III of Awka Ancient Kingdom.

The fiery declaration came from Ogbuefi Toochukwu Nwosu, Chairman of Omenani Awka, the highest traditional institution representing the customs and culture of Awka people.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional institution, Ogbuefi Nwosu advised the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo to focus squarely on governance and development, and to leave traditional matters in the hands of traditionalists.

*“A people that interferes with sacred traditions invites deadly consequences,” he stated emphatically.*

*He further stressed that Awka has enjoyed relative peace for over ten years since Obi Austin Ndigwe ascended the throne of Ezeuzu III. According to him, Awka indigenes remain supportive of Governor Soludo’s developmental efforts to transform Awka into a befitting State Capital, but will not tolerate any attempt to impose leadership on their traditional stool.*

*“Previous administrations understood this boundary. Gov. Peter Obi met the situation and allowed it to be. Governor Willie Obiano also met the impasse and wisely left it untouched. Why is the present government trying to create a war-like situation in a peaceful Awka?” he queried.*

Ogbuefi Nwosu made it clear that Obi Gibson Nwosu no longer handles Ofala or any Awka traditional affairs, adding that the community knows its king and cannot be forced to accept who do not belong to them.

“Awka is peaceful. The former Ezeuzu and Ezeuzu the 3rd are not in any form of war. This is not in contention. Please allow Obi Austin Ndigwe to be. He is the chosen one and the crowned king of Awka by its people,” he declared.

The traditionalists’ strong position comes amid ongoing dispute following the state government’s Commission of Inquiry and subsequent White Paper, which reportedly recognized Obi Gibson Nwosu as the legitimate traditional ruler of Awka. Supporters of Obi Austin Ndigwe have continued to project him as Ezeuzu III, leading to fresh accusations of defiance and interference.

The invocation of a curse on APGA members alleged to be behind attacks on Obi Ndigwe has sent ripples across the state, raising fears of heightened spiritual consequences in Anambra capital if the matter is not carefully managed.

Awka indigenes have been urged to remain calm while standing firm on their customs and traditions.

This development underscores the deep divide in the over-a-decade-old Awka kingship tussle, even as both sides claim to prioritize peace and the progress of the ancient town.- Hope for Tradition.
