Tension is rising in parts of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State following reports of a late-night movement of suspected armed herders toward Mbalom community. Eyewitnesses and local hunters say the group was seen moving in large numbers through several villages.
Residents of Mbalom and surrounding communities in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State are on high alert following reports of a suspected movement of armed herders through the area late Monday night.
According to information shared with Benue Info-pedia by a local source identified as Mc Oliver De Busy-brain, hunters who were out around 10:37 p.m. reportedly sighted a large group moving near Ormin village. The hunters, according to the source, observed the group advancing in numbers along a route believed to lead toward Mbalom.
A resident also reportedly confirmed sighting the group crossing the Naka road at Mgbeta, after Adaka, heading in the direction of Ormin village. The movement was said to have continued through several settlements, including Tse Mom, Tse Uchough, and Tse Imunan, with the final direction believed to be Agena Mbalom.
While the exact intent of the group remains unclear, the development has heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom are calling for vigilance and immediate security intervention.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding the reported movement. However, locals have been urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
