Marissa Bode was 'denied boarding a flight because I'm disabled' Marissa Bode, best known for her role in Wicked, shared on TikTok that she was recently denied boarding a Southern Airways flight because of her wheelchair.  She explained that when she asked gate agents for help locating her boarding pass, they questioned whether she could stand.  After she said no, they told her she could not board since all of the airline’s planes require passengers to climb stairs.  Bode described the experience as “blatant segregation,” criticizing the airline for failing to accommodate disabled travelers. ‎The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has inaugurated the newly elected Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments, charging them to uphold integrity, discipline, and the highest ethical standards in the discharge of their duties. The new academic leaders emerged from an institution-wide election conducted on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

‎Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Awuzie congratulated the Deans and HODs on their emergence and commended the Electoral Committee, led by the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe, for conducting a credible exercise.

‎She restated her administration’s commitment to repositioning the institution as a centre of excellence, innovation, and professional relevance, noting that her 12-point agenda remains the roadmap for growth and development.

‎Dr. Awuzie urged the new officers to key into the agenda to foster institutional growth and to create a conducive atmosphere for work and learning for both staff and students. She emphasized the need for strict adherence to the institution’s rules and regulations at all times.

‎Other principal officers present at the ceremony included the Bursar, Mr. Jasper Anunike; Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba; Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe; Director of ICT, Dr. Amobi Chiamaoge; and Director of TETFund, Dr. Helen Nnabuenyi.
