The Hospital Administrator of the State, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, has issued a warning to health professionals engaged in dual government employment while drawing full-time salaries from both positions.
Dr. Ifeanaeme gave the warning during a meeting with all Heads of State Hospitals at his office in Enugwu-Ukwu. He observed that some doctors, nurses, and other health professionals are currently employed in government service while simultaneously undertaking residency programmes.
He further cautioned that under no circumstances should any nurse, pharmacist, or other health worker be employed in both the state and federal civil service while earning full salaries from both. He requested the submission of the names of individuals involved in the practice for appropriate disciplinary action.
“I urge all personnel employed in state hospitals who are also undergoing residency to resign from one of the engagements. The proper procedure is to obtain approval from the government, with or without pay, depending on the terms of the application,” he stated.
Dr. Ifeanaeme noted that defaulters would face disciplinary measures from the appropriate authorities. He explained that the meeting was convened because some staff might claim ignorance of civil service rules, which require every civil servant to obtain approval from the relevant authorities before proceeding on study leave or engaging in any other employment outside state service.
He emphasized the need for strict adherence to established procedures to avoid sanctions.
