LASEMA, EMERGENCY RESPONDERS AVERT TRAGEDY IN DALEKO BRIDGE TRUCK ACCIDENT
… Says No Casualties Recorded
The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has successfully coordinated the emergency response and recovery operations following a truck accident at Daleko Bridge, inward Isolo, ensuring the safety of lives and the restoration of traffic flow.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2025, involved a 40-foot containerised truck and a Toyota Camry with registration number BDJ-263SX.
Upon arrival at the scene, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team established that the 40-foot container detached from a tow truck while ascending Daleko Bridge due to a mechanical fault - a broken turntable. The container subsequently fell sideways onto the Toyota Camry, resulting in a complete shutdown of vehicular movement on the bridge.
In line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, no loss of life or injury was recorded. The three occupants of the affected Toyota Camry escaped unscathed.
The Eagle Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and personnel of the Nigerian Army, immediately instituted traffic diversion measures to ensure the safety of motorists and prevent secondary incidents.
Recovery operations commenced with the deployment of the Agency’s heavy-duty equipment crane alongside a private crane. As of 1:48 am today, April 27, the 40-foot container has been upturned to a standing position.
However, due to damage to the truck’s chassis, the container remains at risk of falling and is currently being suspended with the Agency’s crane while transloading of its contents into another empty truck is ongoing.
Speaking on the incident, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the synergy among all responders and reaffirmed the State Government’s proactive approach to emergency management under the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu.
“The swift response by LASEMA and sister agencies once again demonstrates this administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property. We urge all truck owners and logistics operators to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles to prevent avoidable accidents on our roads,” Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
He further appealed to motorists to exercise patience and cooperate with traffic officials as recovery operations continue. Alternative routes have been provided to ease movement pending the full reopening of the bridge.
The Lagos State Government remains committed to building a safe, resilient, and efficient transport system for all residents. Members of the public are advised to report emergencies immediately via the toll-free lines 767 or 112.
