 Tanzanian opposition Tundu Lissu charged with treason Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu was charged with treason following his arrest at a public rally in which he called for electoral reforms ahead of planned general elections in October, AP reported. Lissu, chairperson of the main opposition party CHADEMA, was arrested on Wednesday night over what regional police called incitement. The opposition in Tanzania has been calling for electoral reforms to ensure the upcoming poll is free and fair. Lissu on Thursday afternoon arrived at the Kisutu magistrate's court in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam appearing in high spirits and in the company of his lawyers and opposition party politicians. 2023: My Focus At This Time Is Fighting Inflation Not Politics ā€“ Emefiele 

Amid speculations that he may be running for President in 2023, Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele on Monday said his focus was on solving macroeconomic challenges, including fighting inflation.

Banners of Mr Emefiele as a presidential candidate has flooded parts of the country, suggesting he might be interested in politics.

ā€œMy focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy,ā€ Mr Emefiele said in a series of tweets.
