Late last night, the LAWMA Project WISE Team (West Region) carried out an enforcement and monitoring exercise around the Igando axis, targeting indiscriminate waste disposal on road medians. The operation led to the arrest of three offenders, identified as Islamiya Peju Ola (26), Matin Solomon (16), and Rukayat Oladipo (39), who were caught dumping refuse on the Igando road median. Despite repeated public warnings, they continued to engage in such environmental infractions that defaced the environment and undermined public health and safety . All apprehended individuals were handed over to KAI officers at the Oshodi Task Force Office at approximately 8:45 p.m. for prosecution in line with environmental laws. LAWMA reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on illegal waste disposal. Residents, traders, and business owners are strongly advised to use only approved waste channels and desist from practices that degrade the environment. A cleaner Lagos is everyone’s responsibility.  NEYGA CONDEMNS SERAP FOR DESCRIBING COURT'S VERDICT AS "TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE" OVER 100 MILLION DAMAGES AWARD

The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly has condemned The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) for describing as "a travesty" of justice a verdict of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), awarding N100 million in damages against the NGO.

The court has in  addition to the N100 million ordered SERAP to publish apologies in two national newspapers and two television stations to the two DSS operatives defamed by it.

Reacting to the judgment, SERAP issued a statement dismissing the verdict as a "travesty," a "blow to civic space in Nigeria,"

But, in a statement issued in Kaduna, NEGYA described SERAP's comments as deeply troubling and allegedly irresponsible for a group that purports to promote socio-economic rights and accountability.

The statement signed by NEYGA's spokesperson, Ibrahim Dan-Musa,

noted that on the surface, SERAP pretends to live by its name- promoting socio-economic rights and accountability but deep down it would seem that SERAP would rather every other person or group, but itself, be held accountable.
