 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.  Gov. Uba Sani Approves ₦4.29bn For Pensioners, Death Benefits


Governor Uba Sani has approved the release of ₦4.289 billion to settle pension entitlements, gratuities, and death benefits for retired civil servants and the families of deceased workers at both state and local government levels.


The approved funds will cover 1,637 beneficiaries under two schemes: the Contributory Pension Scheme (Accrued Rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme. Out of the total amount, ₦3.915 billion will be paid to 1,392 pensioners under the contributory scheme, while ₦374 million will go to 245 beneficiaries under the defined benefit scheme.


According to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, this latest disbursement brings the total amount paid by the administration to ₦17.796 billion, benefiting over 8,300 retirees and families of deceased workers.


He explained that the payment reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to clear pension backlogs, strengthen social protection, and rebuild trust in the system. 


He also emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare and dignity of senior citizens.


Maiyaki added that the intervention is part of broader reforms aimed at improving transparency, ensuring fiscal discipline, and maintaining a sustainable pension system. 


He assured that the Kaduna State Government will continue to implement policies that guarantee timely pension payments and uphold the dignity of public servants after retirement.
