The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin stated that the State had operated a rolling waste management framework since the Babatunde Raji Fashola administration, which had guided reforms and improvements in the sector over the years. He noted that evolving urban challenges, population growth, and changing waste patterns now required a more updated and comprehensive approach to sustain progress and drive future development. Beginning Friday, the program will initially target passport holders with child support debts of $100,000 or more. Officials said roughly 2,700 Americans currently fall into that category based on information provided by the Department of Health and Human Services. The policy is expected to expand significantly in the near future to include parents who owe more than $2,500 in unpaid child support, which is the threshold established under a federal law passed in 1996.  The sustained night monitoring and enforcement operations by the LAWMA Project WISE Team recorded the arrest of another set of three environmental defaulters within the Egan, Akesan, and Igando corridors of Igando-Ikotun LCDA. The offenders, identified as Ibrahim Yusuf (30), Kabiru Abubakar (15), and Easter Sunday (21), were apprehended for illegally dumping waste on road medians after the night's trading activities. LAWMA maintains a zero-tolerance approach to illegal waste disposal. Enforcement operations will continue across identified hotspots.  Residents and traders are strongly advised to patronize approved PSP operators and dispose of waste through authorized channels only. Environmental responsibility is a collective duty. A cleaner Lagos begins with proper waste disposal.

 ADF terrorists kill at least 36 people in eastern DRC The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists have killed at least 36 people in two days of attacks in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local and security sources said on Thursday. ADF terrorists have killed at least 21 people since Tuesday in isolated villages on the border between the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, and at least 15 people in an attack in Biakato town, in Ituri, they told AFP. The mineral-rich eastern DRC has been plagued for three decades by conflict involving various armed groups, militia and army troops. The ADF has been accused of massacres and pillaging in Ituri and North Kivu.

 Tunisian court sentences journalist Zied Heni to one year in prison A Tunisian court sentenced the prominent reporter Zied Heni to one year in prison on Thursday, after he criticized a ​judicial ruling, his lawyer told Reuters, the latest move that critics ‌say aims to silence critical voices. Heni was detained last month after writing an article criticising the judiciary, a move the journalists' union said was part of a broader ​crackdown on free speech. Heni said on ⁠Wednesday in a letter from prison published by his family that he ​would not appeal any ruling. "I'm facing an illegitimate trial in which my rights ​are being violated. I do not recognize any outcome resulting from it", he added. Rights groups warn of growing attempts to stifle remaining independent voices since President Kais Saied ​dissolved the elected parliament in 2021 and began ruling by decree.
