The decision followed a public hearing on Tuesday during which more than 20 residents urged the council to strictly enforce the city’s tree protection laws. Residents argued that the trees’ leafy canopies play a vital role in wildfire prevention, public health, and environmental equity. According to reports, the trees were removed nearly four years ago. The city, however, rejected their explanation and held them liable for violating Oakland’s tree protection ordinances. In addition to the hefty fine, the council pl...

CONFLICTING JUDGEMENTS WEAKENING PUBLIC CONFIDENCE IN JUDICIARY, SAYS NBA PRESIDENT. (PHOTO).

The NBA president said lawyers and litigants across the country are increasingly confronted with contradictory judgements on similar legal questions. The senior advocate of Nigeria said the trend posed serious implications for the credibility of the courts and the administration of justice. “Justice loses its meaning when the law becomes uncertain,” Osigwe said. “A judiciary that speaks in conflicting voices on similar issues risks eroding public confidence in the courts an...

In a deposition obtained by NBC, Shaknovsky described the incident as an “incredibly unfortunate event” and admitted he was “forever traumatized” by the outcome.  He explained that he was mentally compromised at the time, devastated and demoralized by Bryan’s passing, and even attempted to cover up the mistake by labeling the removed liver as a spleen in medical notes.  Bryan’s widow, ...

YESTERDAY I MET WITH THE OZO AWKA SOCIETY LED BY OZO SIR CHUKWUJEKWU EZE. WE SPOKE TRUTH, AS OZO MEN DO-GOV. SOLUDO.(PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE

Yesterday I met with the Ozo Awka Society led by Ozo Sir Chukwujekwu Eze. We spoke truth, as Ozo men do. Awka is my home. It is our capital. And for 34 years, we pretended. No Government House. No Lodge. No vision.  That jinx is broken.  I made a promise: I will live in Awka. Today, you can walk into the Light House — 57 buildings that say Anambra has arrived. We built Solution Fun City because Awka must be a destination, not a junction. But buildings alone don’t make a 21st-century city. People do. And for too long, Awka has been punching below its weight. On tradition and law:   The crisis over Eze Uzu has gone on for years. Government has the easy choice: look away. But leadership means doing the uncomfortable thing.  The Commission of Enquiry was clear: Obi Gibson Nwosu was never dethroned. Chief Austine Ndigwe, my friend, was never legally enthroned.  The law is law. If you parade as a second traditional ruler in one community, you go to jail. Pe...
