 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.  A car vs. motorcycle accident leaves the motorcycle in an unbelievable place. This incident took place on Saturday, May 9th, in Delta, British Columbia.   There is a video of the accident. It happens very quickly and it appears the motorcycle driver accidentally ramped a vehicle.  Local authorities say "speed was definitely a factor". The motorcyclist received serious but not life threatening injuries, and the person driving the car was not hurt.

 The federal government has exempted candidates seeking admission into colleges of education from writing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Speaking in Abuja on Monday at the admission policy meeting for the 2026 UTME, Tunji Alausa, minister of education, said candidates with four credit passes in relevant subjects are allowed to apply to the colleges of education without sitting for the UTME. He noted that such candidates must register with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), while their credentials are screened, verified and certified for the issuance of admission letters through CAPS in accordance with extant regulations.  Court strikes out suit against APC national congress The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out a suit challenging the conduct of the national congress of the All Progressives Congress, holding that the matter bordered on the internal affairs of the party and was therefore not justiciable. Trial judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, also imposed a total cost of N20m against the plaintiff, Fubara Dagogo, and his lawyer, Ogochukwu Onyema. Delivering judgment, Justice Abdulmalik held that the dispute arose from the APC’s internal congress and nomination processes, which the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain under Section 83(5) of the Electoral Act 2026. “It is my considered view that the subject matter of this suit pertains definitely to the internal affairs of the activities of APC,” the judge ruled.  Kwara Court Jails Truck Driver, Orders Forfeiture of 25 Tons of Lithium Minerals in Ilorin  Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has convicted and sentenced a 50-year-old truck driver, Kasimu Bawa, to two years imprisonment for unlawful possession of minerals valued at N2.4million. Bawa was arraigned on November 1, 2022, by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Commission on a one-count charge bordering on possession of minerals without lawful authority.
