My dad got cancer right now - Drake opens up about father’s health on new album Iceman

Drake has shared a deeply personal update about his father’s health, revealing through new music that his dad, Dennis Graham, is currently battling cancer.

The revelation comes from his newly released album Iceman, which dropped on Friday, May 15, alongside two surprise projects titled Habibti and Maid Of Honour.

The album arrives with a wave of attention, but it is one lyric in particular that has drawn strong emotional reactions from listeners.

On the opening track “Make Them Cry,” Drake reflects on his father’s condition, rapping that Dennis Graham is “battling stages” of cancer. He also expresses the emotional weight of the situation, saying there are other challenges he would rather face than what his family is currently going through. In the verse, he adds that he is willing to go deeper into the subject if needed.

Shortly after the album’s release, Dennis Graham shared a photo of himself with Drake on Instagram. The image showed the father and son embracing, accompanied by a caption that read, “The Ice Man and The Nice Man just doing what we do, don’t get it twisted.”

Fans quickly filled the comments section with messages of support. Many sent prayers and well wishes to Dennis as news of his condition spread through the lyrics.

Dennis Graham, a musician in his own right, has long been connected to the industry. He once played drums for his band, Dennis Graham and the North Memphis Band, and also performed with legendary artist Jerry Lee Lewis. In later years, he returned more actively to music, releasing material that reflected his bond with his son.

One of his notable releases, “Father and Son,” written in 2021, focuses on the relationship between him and Drake, highlighting the emotional connection between them through lyrics centered on understanding and family ties.

Beyond the revelation about his father, Drake also uses “Make Them Cry” to touch on his own pressures in the music industry. He reflects on turning 40, dealing with criticism, and the frustration of constant expectations from fans and the wider industry.
