Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.     A 6-year-old child plummeted 81 feet from a Nashville apartment building. A Nashville mother waited to look down until she exhausted all other alternatives. When she did peer over the edge of her 8th floor balcony, her life was irrevocably changed in that instant. 6-year-old, Kingston McWilliams, was the victim. His mother informed authorities that she had only briefly left his side to go into another room in the apartment where the two lived at 200 East Webster. Upon quickly returning to the living room, she immediately noticed Kingston was not in the room. She began an extensive search of the apartment and hallway before stepping onto her balcony and looking over the  railing  to see her son's lifeless body 81 feet below.     A South Carolina man got some of his punishment in advance when he tried to rob the wrong guy. 33-year-old Justin Adkins entered the Vape and Smoke Shop in North Charleston, S.C., at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12th. However, Justin was not there to shop, rather, he thought he had found an easy target.  Things did not go to plan for Justin, and he was happier to see officers than the robbery victim, when they arrived.  The stores surveillance cameras captured the entire incident.  OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS NEUTRALISE SEVERAL LAKURAWA TERRORISTS,  RECOVER WEAPONS AND RUSTLED LIVESTOCK Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA in continuation of series of offensive operations against terrorists and bandits, have successfully neutralised several terrorists, recovered weapons and livestock across Sokoto and Katsina States  In Sokoto State, troops responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an attempt by Lakurawa Terrorist Group (LTG) to set fire to a Nigerian Immigration Service  facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza LGA of Sokoto State. The troops made contact with the terrorists, neutralising 2 terrorists in the ensuing firefight, while others fled due to overwhelming firepower.  Chemical Odour Incident: Ogun Govt Activates Emergency Response in Ijebu Ode The Ogun State Government has activated emergency environmental and public health response measures following another chemical odour incident that affected students across several schools in Ijebu Ode. Government officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, visited affected students receiving treatment, while OGEPA confirmed that elevated methane concentrations were detected within parts of the affected area through the state’s air quality monitoring system.  COURT SENTENCES HALIMA UMAR ARMS COURIER TO TWENTY YEARS IMPRISONMENT  A federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Yilewa Joseph has sentenced Halima Haliru Umar, charged with illegal arms courier to bandit networks to 20 years imprisonment. The convict was arrested by the Department of State Service DSS in 2025 in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State with 302 rounds of AK 47 ammunition and 57,000 Naira. Upon arraignment, the convict pledged guilty to count 3 and 4 which bordered on terrorism and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Justice Yilewa in his judgement noted that the convict has admitted to the facts presented by the prosecution without presenting any evidence in her defense and consequently convicted and sentenced her to 20 years imprisonment on count 3 and 4.  Alleged N36m Fraud: EFCC Arraigns Blessing CEO in Lagos The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on Friday, May 15, 2026, arraigned a social media influencer and self-styled relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, (also known as Blessing CEO),  before Justice D.I.  Non - Disclosure of Assets:   Appeal Court Upholds Conviction and Sentence of George Turnah The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday,  May 14, 2026 upheld the conviction of George Turnah Alabh, a former Special Assistant to the erstwhile Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Dan Abia. At the Court of Appeal,  Justice Peter C.
