The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has unveiled transformational guidelines aimed at repositioning the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation to greater heights, in line with the directives of the state governor.
The meeting, which was held today, May 19, at the Situation Room of the Ministry of Information, focused on reforming the ministry and promoting a more productive and meaningful work environment within the civil service.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Mefor emphasized the need to create a work environment that promotes unity and family spirit among workers. According to him, the civil service should be progressive and intentionally organized to make work more fulfilling and motivating.
He said that the ministry should serve as a model to the entire civil service by demonstrating what an ideal work environment ought to be through dedication, motivation, and commitment to duty.
Dr. Mefor further explained that workers should develop emotional attachment to their jobs, seeing their work as meaningful and impactful.
“You don't just pass and they say you retire and nobody remembers you. You retired and nobody felt your absence because you weren't there, you didn't do anything spectacular. If you didn't do anything different from what any other person can do, then, you aren't contributing anything.”
He noted that the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation now carries additional responsibilities beyond information dissemination, stressing that the ministry is expected to project government activities effectively so they are known, heard, and appreciated by the public.
The commissioner added that the ministry is moving beyond conventional information management to strategic communication aimed at changing attitudes and modifying behaviors, while also advancing plans to digitize the ministry for improved service delivery.
In her remarks, the Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm. Obiageli Uchebo, encouraged information officers to remain emotionally attached to their work and stay committed despite challenges.
“Don't relent, push on even if you are insulted, continue to push on. Reward to good works is more work. Continue to strive and get better.”
She also stressed the need for social media visibility through regular dissemination of government activities to the public.
Also speaking, the Acting Director of Information, Mr. Emmanuel U. Emmanuel, commended the commissioner for his performance and appreciated the governor for reappointing him.
Other Directors present at the meeting included the Director of PRS, Mrs. Okonkwo Ifeoma; Director of Accounts, Mrs Uchenna S. Onyejekwe; and Director of Films, Mr. Shedrack Nnanna.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the ministry to strengthen strategic communication, promote value reformation, and improve workers’ productivity across the civil service.
