Otti Slams Julius Abure Over Continued Sale of Labour Party Nomination Forms Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has strongly criticised the former National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, for proceeding with the sale of governorship nomination forms despite opposition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsisting court rulings. The criticism follows a viral photograph showing Abure presenting a Labour Party nomination form to a former National Vice Chairman of the party, Ceekay Igara, in the company of other party members. Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ukoha Ukoha, Governor Otti questioned Abure’s continued claim to leadership of the party.  Ukoha insisted that both judicial pronouncements and INEC’s position have effectively sidelined Abure, describing his actions as being in contempt of court. “I think Abure is in a better position to explain the grounds on which he is still parading himself after a Federal High...

Rwandan genocide suspect Felicien Kabuga dies in custody in The Hague at age 91 A Rwandan suspect charged in connection with the 1994 genocide died in a hospital while in custody in The Hague, Netherlands, a UN court said on Saturday, three years after the court declared him unfit to continue standing trial. Felicien Kabuga, 91, was accused of encouraging and bankrolling the mass killing of Rwanda’s Tutsi minority. His trial began in 2022, nearly three decades after the 100-day massacre that left 800,000 people dead. In 2023, the judges declared him unfit to continue standing trial because he had dementia and said they would establish a procedure to continue hearing evidence without the possibility of convicting him. U.S Postal Service unveils bald eagle stamps for America’s 250th birthday celebration The U.S. Postal Service is marking America’s 250th birthday with a new set of special edition stamps featuring one of the nation’s most recognizable symbols: the bald eagle. Unveiled at the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota, the collection highlights the bird through five stages of life, from a small hatchling to the iconic white-headed adult that appears on the Great Seal. The stamps are now available for purchase nationwide. Officials say the design reflects both the life cycle of the eagle and the broader story of the United States itself. A Postal Service historian involved in the project said the imagery mirrors the nation’s own development, comparing the early stages of the eagle’s life to the country’s beginnings. The bald eagle has represented the United States since the adoption of the Great Seal in 1782 and was officially named the national bird in 2024, long associated with streng...

Commentary on World Hypertension Day (Every May 17) By Isima Stephanie Obianuju World Hypertension Day is observed annually on May 17 to raise awareness about hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. It is a silent but deadly health condition affecting millions of people worldwide.  The day serves as a global campaign to educate people on the dangers of uncontrolled blood pressure and the importance of regular health checks. Hypertension is often described as a “silent killer” because many people living with the condition show no visible symptoms until serious complications arise. If left untreated, it can lead to stroke, heart failure, kidney disease, and other life-threatening illnesses.  Sadly, many individuals discover they have hypertension only after suffering severe health emergencies. In developing countries, including Nigeria, changing lifestyles, poor dietary habits, stress, lack of exercise, excessiv...
