The Federal Government says the screening of Nigerians in South Africa who registered for evacuation has ended, as joint teams finalize the list of those cleared to return home.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the exercise commenced on Thursday, June 4.
It is a joint operation involving the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the South African Police Service, and Immigration authorities.
At the conclusion of the screening exercise, authorities are expected to have a definitive figure of Nigerians cleared for evacuation.
The Government says it will then finalize arrangements for the deployment of aircraft to bring the evacuees home.
The evacuation follows growing concerns over the safety of Nigerians in South Africa amid renewed xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants
