 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. A Statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command DSP Ahmad Rufa'i indicates that the  Patrol Team attached to Bado Division intercepted two suspects riding an unregistered Motorcycle along the Kebbi-Sokoto Road during a routine stop-and-search operation.  Yobe State Governor  Buni Cuts Down Tractor Hiring Fees To Farmers By 50% Yobe  state Governor Mai Mala Buni has to reduce the cost of hiring tractors by fifty per cent from N100,000 to N50,000. The Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Mohammed Goje, who disclosed the development, described it as part of the administration's commitment to easing the burden on farmers and promoting increased agricultural production. He said the 50 per cent reduction in tractor hiring fees would enable more farmers to access mechanised farming services, cultivate larger expanses of land and improve productivity during the current farming season. According to him, the intervention is expected to lower the cost of cultivation, enhance food production and contribute significantly to food security in the state.

 FG Bans Mandatory 3-Month Pre-Retirement Leave for Civil Servants The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to immediately stop the practice of placing civil servants on mandatory three-month pre-retirement leave, declaring that no such provision exists in the Public Service Rules. In a circular issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, the government described the widespread practice as a misinterpretation of the rules. The circular, titled “Correct Interpretation of Public Service Rule 120243 on Pre-Retirement Activities,” was addressed to ministers, permanent secretaries, service chiefs, heads of agencies and other top government officials.   Reps Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda Defects To APC, Resigns Position The Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday read a letter announcing the defection of Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection letter was, however, dated April 23, 2026. Following the announcement of his defection, Chinda subsequently resigned his position as Minority Leader of the House.  Ghana warns its citizens against non-essential travel to South Africa Ghana has advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to South Africa until further notice due to a wave of xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants. In a statement, Ghana's Foreign Ministry said that groups identifying themselves as anti-immigrant movements in South Africa have been carrying out attacks against African foreign nationals, resulting in injuries, looting, business closures and property losses. The ministry urged Ghanaian citizens to exercise extreme caution in their travel plans and refrain from non-essential visits to South Africa until the security situation improves. Ghana also called on the South African government to ensure the safety of African communities living in the country and restore public order.

 Uganda health ministry confirms six new cases of Ebola Uganda has confirmed six more new cases of Ebola, bringing ​the total confirmed in the country so far to 15, the ‌health ministry said on Tuesday, as the U.N. migration agency warned that border closures may increase the risk of the virus spreading. Uganda's health ministry said in a statement on its X ​account that the six new cases were contacts of other confirmed ​cases. It said to date there were two discharges from hospital, ⁠with 12 people admitted and one death. The World ⁠Health ​Organization said on Tuesday there were 321 confirmed cases ​of Ebola in the Congo outbreak and 116 suspected cases.
