Former senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Danjuma La’ah, has reportedly left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing concerns over the conduct of the APC senatorial primaries.
La’ah said he was dissatisfied with the arrangements and delegate selection process used during the primaries, arguing that the exercise lacked sufficient transparency.
He alleged that the process favored the incumbent senator, Sunday Marshall Katung, whom he described as the preferred candidate of the state leadership.
Shortly after his defection, La’ah emerged as the NDC’s governorship candidate for the forthcoming Kaduna State election.
The APC, however, has maintained that its primaries were conducted in accordance with party guidelines and reflected the wishes of its members. Supporters of Governor Uba Sani have rejected allegations of irregularities in the process.
With the election still some time away, political parties and candidates are expected to continue consultations, alliances, and campaign preparations. Observers say the coming months will be crucial in determining the strength and direction of the major contenders ahead of the polls.
