Anambra Government Announces 24-Hour Free Ambulance Services Across the State

The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving emergency healthcare delivery with the introduction of free, 24-hour ambulance services for residents across the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, disclosed that the Anambra Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (ASEMSAS) is fully operational and readily accessible to the public.

According to the commissioner, residents facing medical emergencies can access the service by dialing the toll-free emergency number, 5111, assuring that prompt medical assistance will be provided at no cost.

Speaking on the initiative on June 13, the Hospital Administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, said the service forms part of the state government's broader efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve emergency response across Anambra.

He noted that the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has continued to implement transformative healthcare reforms aimed at making quality healthcare services more accessible, affordable and efficient for all residents.

Dr. Ifeanaeme urged members of the public to take advantage of the emergency service whenever the need arises, emphasizing that timely medical intervention remains critical to reducing preventable deaths and improving health outcomes.

He added that the free ambulance service is expected to significantly enhance emergency response capacity, particularly in cases involving road traffic accidents, sudden illnesses and other life-threatening situations requiring urgent medical attention.

Residents have also been encouraged to remain informed about the service and use it responsibly as the state government continues to prioritize the health, safety and well-being of its citizens.
