 Trial begins of Central African ex-president Bozize over war crimes A UN-backed court in the the Central African Republic will on Tuesday begin the trial in absentia of former president Francois Bozize, over crimes against humanity committed between 2009 and 2013. The alleged crimes committed by members of Bozize's security forces include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape. Bozize, 79, who seized power in a 2003 coup before being overthrown 10 years later by rebels, has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023. But three of his former senior military officers, Eugene Barret Ngaikosset, Vianney Semndiro and Firmin Junior Danboy, are all in pre-trial detention in the Central African Republic. Crimes against humanity The case will be heard by the Special Criminal Court (SCC), a hybrid jurisdiction located in the capital Bangui with Central African and foreign judges. Following approval by the Police Service Commission for the promotion of Senior Police Officers on the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police *IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu NPM,mni*.One Hundred and Seventy Officers(170) have benefited from the Command comprising of Twenty Four(24) Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents of Police(SP)Thirty Eight(38) Assistant Superintendents of Police to Deputy Superintendents(DSP)and One Hundred and Eight(108) Inspectors to the Rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police(ASP)
Consequently,One Hundred and Twenty(122) Assistant Superintendents of Police(ASP II) were confirmed to the substantive rank of (ASP I)
Among the officers decorated today 23/2/2021 by the Commissioner of Police *CP Monday Bala Kuryas,fsi* includes.SP Idowu Olawoye(Command Works Officer)SP Ochogwu Sunday(DCO II Okpoko Division.Others are DSP Isiah Garba Kamantan(Station Officer Okpoko Division) and Inspectors Desmond Ezihe,Imo Joseph,Japhet Onaro,Emeka Onwuyuariri and Infeanyi Osadi all promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendents of Police(ASP)
The Commissioner of Police Anambra State Command *CP Monday Bala Kuryas,fsi* congratulated the newly promoted officers from the Command and urged them to put more efforts in discharging their duties of promoting safety and security not only in the State but the Nation at large.The CP also urged them to rededicate themselves to duty and reciprocate the gesture done to them by the Inspector-General of Police.
The CP equally thanked the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu NPM,mni,for giving personnel welfare a top priority in his administration and assured 'Ndi Anambra' that the Command under his watch will continue to serve and protect the citizens with integrity.
