The President General (PG), Akpo Development Association(ADA), Nze Henry C. Dim has called on Ndi Igbo to respect the rich culture/traditional heritage of Igbo race to sustain peaceful coexistence.
He said this while exchanging views with information officers, at his residence, Ogbo Village, Akpo, in Aguata LGA, on January 27.
The PG said, "culture is a natural identity of a people which ought not to be toyed with.
"Respect to culture/tradition of a nation makes the nation walk tall among equals. Everybody respects culture and tradition irrespective of how rich, firm, a person is.
"In Igbo culture, there are Obis, Okpalas, Nze na Ozos. Obis and Okpalas are the king makers who make the Igwe. Igwe in turn, form his cabinet by making Ichies. Although, this may differ from one town to the other in accordance to their constitution.
"Predominantly, it is not possible to make anybody Chief in Igbo land without the person taking Ozo title first. So, to know if any person is qualified to take chieftaincy title outside his home town. The head of Ozo title in his town (Onye Isi Nze) must be consulted.
"Others to be consulted are Igwe of his home town and President General, in writing. Their response will now form part of a letter of consultation to Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
"These processes are followed to ascertain if the title being given is requisite to the person. It does not make sense crowning person 'Eze Ji', when he does not know how to cultivate yam.
"No one should be crowned 'Ochiri Ozua' when he has not paid school fees for anybody outside his own children. The title 'Omepuru Onye Odili' is a mismatch when he has not solved any problem of the poor, to mention but few."
He enjoined traditional rulers to adhere to these processes to giving titles to avert hitting up the polity unnecessarily, adding that chieftaincy need reform in Igbo land, saying that a person residing in United Kingdom (UK), United State (US) being made Igwe is mockery to Igbo culture.
"He should be residing within his own town to giving attention to his people's culture and tradition."
The PG pleaded with critics to criticize constructively, stressing that we do not have any other State than Anambra.
"Destroying her in the name of politics will make us not to have state to govern when the opportunity comes."
He enjoined Ndi Anambra to support revenue collection policies of government as we pay our taxes/levies in accordance to government directives, noting that it is in the interest of the state.
"No meaningful development could be achieved without revenue. So, pay what you ought to pay, to where you ought to pay it.
"Pray for the success of government as it is obligated unto us to do.
