A well-known traditional healer, Daniel Masinga (49), has been sentenced to eight years direct imprisonment by the Burgersfort Regional Court for rape. The court heard that the 38-year-old victim visited the accused at his residence in Mooihoek, Mashemong, in June 2020 after he allegedly called her under the pretext of providing traditional medication. After consuming a concoction given to her by the accused, the victim reportedly became dizzy and disoriented. She later regained consciousness and discovered that she was being sexually assaulted. The accused allegedly threatened her with a firearm and continued assaulting her throughout the night. The matter was reported to police and investigated by the Burgersfort FCS Unit. The accused later absconded after being released on bail but was re-arrested in December 2025. Apart from the eight-year prison sentence, the court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board has expressed the need for worthwhile content in the film and movie industry in order to project and propagate the rich culture, values and heritage of Lagos State.
Speaking during a courtesy visit of the President of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), to her Ikeja office, the Acting Head of the Board, Mrs. ‘Buloka Agbaminoja, affirmed that professionalism is essential to movie-making for visibility and a catchy storyline, otherwise, the message will be distorted or get lost.
“Professionalism in content delivery as well as a commitment to the promotion of core values of African altruism, togetherness and the UBUNTU (I am because we are) doctrine is important”, she said.
Mrs. Agbaminoja alluded to the fact that movie production is a herculean task that requires physical and mental techniques, hence, all performances must be done with a huge touch of expertise.
According to her, full details of all productions intended by movie producers must be well and thoroughly researched to motivate viewers and engender a clear understanding of the consequences and sanctions relating to their chosen action and behaviour in society.
“Movie-making is actually a huge business which without a doubt requires concerted efforts. However, our film video must be rich in moral value and above all, devoid of indecency, obscenity, vulgar language and scenes. We are the sum of what we see, hear and do”, she noted.

Responding, Mrs. Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, President, Association of Movie Producers (AMP), stated that the Association is ever ready to improve on its status and standard always, adding that her mandate as the first female President is to take the Association to greater heights by ensuring that movie producers improve on their worth, skills and techniques.
