Whoopi Goldberg apologizes after calling House Speaker a 'moron' on 'The View'

The hosts of The View returned from their Memorial Day break with a fiery live episode on May 26, where Whoopi Goldberg once again had to retract a comment made during heated “Hot Topics” discussions.

Senator Chris Murphy joined the panel to talk about his new book and current events, including Donald Trump’s claim of a potential deal to end the Iran War.

Murphy criticized the idea, saying it amounted to giving Iran billions in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and stressed that the ongoing conflict was weakening the U.S. while strengthening Iran.

Murphy explained that while the Senate had gained bipartisan support to end the war, the House canceled a vote to avoid embarrassing the president. Goldberg reacted sharply, calling House Speaker Mike Johnson “a moron” before quickly apologizing and retracting the remark.

She later voiced frustration over Trump’s proposal to build a taxpayer-funded East Wing ballroom, pointing out the broken promise that Mexico would pay for the border wall and insisting she didn’t want to fund extravagant projects.

Murphy agreed, calling the ballroom plan corrupt and likening it to asking taxpayers to cover billionaire parties at the White House.

The exchange underscored the show’s mix of political debate and candid commentary, with Goldberg balancing her sharp takes with moments of self-correction.

Colbert’s departure from late-night and Trump’s controversial proposals provided a backdrop for the lively discussion, highlighting the intersection of politics, media, and public accountability.
