Art Garfunkel has shared the approach that has helped him and his wife, Kathryn Luce Garfunkel, maintain their marriage for more than three decades.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the 84-year-old singer said the couple does not allow disagreements to continue for long. According to Garfunkel, they may go to bed after an argument, but they always work to resolve it the following day.
"We never get into a fight that lasts. If we go to sleep and we've fought, we make it up the next morning so it wouldn't be two days in a row of turning our back on each other," he said. "We never let a fight last. I can't live without my wife being in accord."
Garfunkel met Kathryn in 1985 while filming the movie *Good to Go*. The couple married in September 1988 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and have two sons, Art Jr., 35, and Beau, 20.
Music has remained a shared interest within the family. Kathryn works as a model, singer and actress, and is scheduled to appear in *A Little Night Music* at Carnegie Hall next year. Their sons are also involved in music, with Art Jr. releasing a collaborative album with his father in 2024, while Beau is studying at Berklee College of Music. The family also performed together during a residency at New York's Café Carlyle in 2024.
Reflecting on his marriage, Garfunkel said meeting Kathryn changed his outlook on life.
"I'm crazy about my wife. It all changed when I met her. That was the end of putting me in the center of my life. Now I'm giving to another. I'm one of two," he said.
The singer also said becoming a father had always been one of his goals, explaining that his own upbringing inspired his desire to have a family.
Garfunkel is currently on his *What a Wonderful World* tour, his first full scale tour in seven years.
