The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, has paid a visit to Master Chiziterem, the boy is currently receiving treatment in hospital following an alleged brutal assault.
Mrs. Onyekesi visited the victim on June 18, to assess his condition and offer words of encouragement to him and his family. The visit followed an earlier intervention by the ministry, which had sent a delegation to the hospital shortly after the incident.
Speaking during the visit, the commissioner reiterated the Anambra State Government's commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children and other vulnerable persons. She emphasized that the state maintains a zero-tolerance stance against all forms of violence, abuse, and neglect.
Mrs. Onyekesi assured the family that justice would be pursued diligently, noting that the individuals allegedly connected to the assault have been arrested and are currently in police custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
She also commended the Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, as well as concerned residents of the state, for their swift response and support following the incident. According to her, the outpouring of concern has provided comfort and encouragement to the victim and his family.
The commissioner called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of child abuse and other forms of violence, stressing that collective responsibility is essential in protecting vulnerable members of society.
Expressing satisfaction with Chiziterem's steady recovery, Mrs. Onyekesi described his improving health as a positive sign and a source of hope for all those concerned about his wellbeing.
She offered prayers for his complete recovery and assured the family of the ministry's continued support throughout the healing and justice process.
